Reno Stead Airport is a 5,000 acre general aviation airport, serving as a reliever airport for Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Reno Stead is home to the Aviation Classics, the Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Kart Club and the Reno Air Racing Association.
Located approximately 15 miles north of Reno, Reno Stead Airport is working to develop itself as a major economic hub in the north valley. Recent improvements have included a new Air Tanker Facility opened by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), as well as improvements to upgrade runway lighting.
Reno Stead is also the venue for several special events. In August the airport is host to the Annual Hot August Nights Stop Light Competition. And September, as always, brings about the world renowned National Championship Air Races. Last year's races boasted record numbers in spectators and participants.
